Customers lament as bank hands out coins amidst Naira notes scarcity [Video]

A bank is apparently giving out coins to customers as an alternative to the newly printed notes due to the increased scarcity of Naira notes.

This comes despite claims that there are not enough resources available for the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to produce additional Naira notes. This led Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, to write a letter of support for CBN Governor Emefiele.

Social media users have been sharing a video of a bank giving out pennies to customers. The video shows a bag with 1000 labels labeled N2 coins as the customer complained.

A customer asked in Yoruba, “What is this?” after being informed that a bag of coins held the equivalent of N2K.

Nigerians have reacted to the development in various ways. Some have called it ridiculous, while others have made fun of the weight.

Another user @hon_francis01 who had a contrary opinion wrote, “This will really improve Nigerian economy because like most of the things that is supposed to be sold out for like #7 but due to they didn’t longer use #1,#2 they will just move it to #10 so that’s why things are really expensive, with the help of this things will be getting better little by little.”
