Nigeria: 2023 presidential: Peter Obi promises that anyone who steals public funds under him will face the wrath of the law.
Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra state and the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, has vowed that if he is elected president of Nigeria, corruption will be a thing of the past.
He claimed that corruption was a social ill that his administration would swiftly put an end to as a result of the drawbacks of national development.
When the Labour party is elected to govern Nigeria, Obi said, anyone caught stealing public funds will face harsh punishment.
His words: “We will stop stealing of government money immediately, those who do will meet what they did not bargain for.”
He said this while answering questions on Arise TV’s Morning Show.
He declared that, in addition to other steps to be taken to make Nigeria safe, his administration would concentrate on lifting people out of poverty in order to lower crime and advance security.
The Labour No presidential candidate stated that his administration would combine all efforts to lift people out of poverty by learning from other nations that have taken steps to improve their societies.
He claimed that poverty was a major contributor to piracy and other types of insecurity. However, his administration would invest in “sports, ICT, agriculture, and a combination of other things to pull people out of poverty and promote social cohesion and safety” as Jamaica reduced crime through sports.
He said: “Noted that the crimes for which many people were arrested and imprisoned were amounts that “If these people can have a steady income, of N50,000 they will not be involved in that.”
According to him: “Nobody was safe in Brazil until Brazil decided to do what I intend to do in Nigeria, investing in people.
“In doing these things I am going to reduce crime,” he stated.
