Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has claimed that some presidential contenders are planning to sell federal universities.
Professor Osodeke stated in Makurdi at the special congress of ASUU of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi, JOSTUM chapter in honour of the university’s outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Richard Kimbir, held at the Science lecture theatre, that two presidential candidates have plans to privatize universities or initiate student loans.
According to the publication, Osodeke stated that the presidential candidates will soon release a plan to privatize federal universities through Public Private Partnership, or settle for a student loan with a 5% interest rate.
Professor Osodeke said,
“IF YOU DON’T KNOW, THEY ARE PLANNING TO SELL THE UNIVERSITIES (FEDERAL UNIVERSITIES) THROUGH PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP. THIS IS BEING PLANNED BY TWO PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES AND THE OTHER PLAN IS TO INITIATE STUDENT LOAN AT 5 PERCENT INTEREST.”
