The Akwa Ibom APC guber primary election has been declared null and void by the court.
A Federal High Court sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state capital, has cancelled the All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship primary election held on May 26 and ordered a new one.
Former Aide to President Mohammedu Buhari senator Ita Enang told the Court in a suit number FHC/UY/144/2022 that the party primary reportedly won by Obong Akan Udofia was marred by several irregularities because the winner was not a member of the party.
In his argument, Udofia claimed that the APC granted him a waiver that qualified him to contest the party primary on May 26, 2022, despite flaws and other irregularities.
The presiding Judge Justice Agatha Okeke nullified the APC primary election and ordered the party in the state to hold another credible primary within two weeks, in a case brought before it by aggrieved governorship aspirant and former Senior Special Assistant to President Mohammedu Buhari on Niger Delta Affairs senator Ita Enang.
Justice Okeke also dismissed the alleged waiver granted to Akan Udofia and ordered the party to hold another primary in a fortnight to determine the APC’s authentic governorship flag bearer in the state.
The Judge also ordered that the defendant Akan Udofia, who claimed to have won the state’s aborted APC primary election, not participate in the new party primary election.
It should be noted that the purported APC governorship primary in the state won by Akan Udofia was hijacked by party bigwigs such as Senator Godswill Akpabio on the one hand and the camp of Senator John James Akpan Udoedehe on the other, who later dumped the party for the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP), leaving Ita Enang, Atuekong Don Etiebet, Capt Sam Ewang, and others.
