‘Ghana Can Qualify Out of Group Stage With Ease,’ Asamoah Gyan says of the 2022 World Cup.
Asamoah Gyan has predicted that Ghana will easily qualify from their group during the Qatar World Cup finals.
WHAT OCCURED? Gyan, who has played in the World Cups in 2006, 2010, and 2014, believes the Black Stars can easily get out of their group and into the knockout stage in Qatar based on previous performances on the world scale.
The West Africans recently played two pre-World Cup friendly, losing 3-0 against Brazil before winning 1-0 against Nicaragua.
The former Udinese and Legion Cities attacker also urged the players under coach Otto Addo to have faith in themselves while representing Africa in Qatar.
WHAT HAS BEEN SAID: “We can easily qualify from our group,” Gyan told Kumasi-based Kessben FM, according to Ghana Web.
“We were the underdogs against the Czech Republic and Italy in 2006. They didn’t give us the opportunity, but we went anyhow and performed.
“The same thing happened in 2010. We went there and raised the Ghanaian flag high by reaching the quarterfinals, which was an improvement.
“Before you can win the World Cup, you must first qualify from your group, which is doable, and I feel that these players are capable of doing so.
“The players must think that it is feasible for them to succeed. The Black Stars must be ready for the World Cup.
“They must go there with the belief that they can succeed, and the team must reflect this belief. The playing body must be daring and willing to accept risks.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE: According to the most recent FIFA rankings, the Black Stars have a difficult struggle in their group if Gyan’s forecast comes true.
While Ghana is ranked 61st in the world, Portugal is ninth, Uruguay is 14th, and South Korea is 28th, the Black Stars are by far the lowest-ranked team in the group.
WHAT’S MORE, GHANA has one more friendly scheduled against Switzerland on November 17, which might enable the former Africa Cup of Nations champions sharpen up even more before the November-December finals begin.
