World Cup: Ghanaians eager to exact revenge on Uruguay – Asamoah Gyan
Former Black Stars of Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan considers the 2022 World Cup group stage match against Uruguay to be the most important in his country’s history.
Before Luis Suarez scored, Ghana was on the verge of becoming the first African team to reach the semi-finals of a senior World Cup. Suarez deliberately handled a header from a corner kick on the goal line, and despite being sent off, Gyan failed to convert the resulting spot-kick before Uruguay won on penalties.
“Everyone in Ghana is waiting for the game against Uruguay because of what happened in 2010. We feel like it is our opportunity to get a revenge.” Gyan said as a co-anchor on a SuperSport World Cup show.
While Suarez is still active and will almost certainly play against Ghana, Gyan is retired and will only be present as a television analyst.
On December 2, Ghana will face Uruguay in their final Group H match.
