Davido’s “Fall” goes Platinum in USA
Davido Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, welcomed the new year with a musical triumph.
He joined his biggest rival, Wizkid, in having his 2017 smash single, Fall, certified Platinum in the United States.
The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) announced Davido’s Fall has surpassed the threshold for Platinum recognition on its website.
An artist reaches that level after selling 1 million Units in the US, according to the association that represents the interests of businesses that record, manufacture, create, and distribute music in the country.
Wizkid became the first Nigerian musician to have his song certified Platinum in the US in October 2021 after selling more than 1 million copies of his song “Essence.”
In other entertainment news, Wizkid’s official DJ, DJ Tunez, had asserted that the Grammy Award winner’s remark about rap wasn’t intended to disparage Nigerian musicians.
He clarified what was perceived as being an insult to countrywide Hip Hop acts on his Twitter account.
It may be noted that the “Essence” singer claimed that rap was dead in an interview with 10 magazine, pushing instead for the dominance of Afrobeats in the Hip Hop genre.
The founder of Starboy Entertainment claims that most Hip Hop artists use the same rhythms and have comparable styles.
Wizkid also used social media to criticize Nigerian rappers, calling them undeveloped non-rappers. He listed Nasty C from South Africa and Sarkodie from Ghana as the continent’s “real rappers.”
Wizkid then faced criticism, primarily from Nigerian rappers who either reacted to him online or created diss tracks.
In response to the way rappers had assaulted Big Wiz, DJ Tunez questioned whether they actually believed his interview was about them.
He tweeted; ”Y’all really think baba was talking bout y’all in that article? 😂 Come on guys!”
