Nigeria: Why I decide to marry multiple wives – Ife’s Ooni

Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ooni of Ife, has finally revealed his reasons for marrying multiple women, which he has been hiding for weeks.

Remember that the Ooni, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has become a topic of conversation due to his string of marriages, particularly since he is set to marry his sixth wife, Princess Temitope Adesegun, today, October 24th.

Everything began in September 2022, when the Ooni of Ife welcomed an Ebira-born queen, Mariam Anako, to his Ile Ife palace—nine months after Prophetess Seyi Naomi announced her divorce on Instagram. He has since married six other women in three weeks after welcoming Mariam.

In 2007, the monarch married Mariam Anako and Dr. Elizabeth Akinmuda.

He married Queen Tobi Phillips, Queen Ashley, and Queen Ronke Ademiluyi in October.

His sixth wife would be Princess Temitope Adesegun.

While celebrating his 48th birthday and seventh coronation anniversary, the Ooni has now explained why he married Mariam Anako and others.

The Ooni explained that he attempted to make some changes but was unable to do so. Perhaps referring to his decision to keep only one queen and have concubines, the monarch said of Ile Ife’s traditional heritage,

“This institution is bigger than me, beyond me. People in this palace are more than 800, they are close to a thousand. There are some people who have been living in this palace for more than 60 years, while some have lived here for more than 80 years old. Some people are over 100 years old in this palace.

If I had my way, I tried to challenge it but it blew in my face but thank God I’m still alive. It’s an institution that is rich in heritage, culture, and tradition.”

In a recent development, a medical doctor from Ekiti state has applied to become the Ooni of Ife’s sixth wife.

Bella Nifemi, a medical doctor, made a submission to the monarch.

If she is considered his wife, she has promised to represent Twitter and the Ekiti community well.

“This is my submission to be Ooni’s 8th wife. I’m also a Medical Doctor and I will represent Twitter and Ekiti community well”.
