Nigeria: Falz and Mr. Macaroni march with young people to commemorate the second anniversary of the #LekkiShooting.
On Thursday, young people from Nigeria gathered at the Lekki Tollgate in Lagos State to commemorate the second anniversary of the #LekkiMassacre and #EndSARS protests.
On October 20, 2022, around nine in the morning, the memorial procession began. Acclaimed rapper Falz and comedic actor Mr. Macaroni joined.
Thousands of young Nigerians marched through the country’s major cities over the course of two weeks during the EndSARS protests that shocked the world in October 2020.
Youths demanded a stop to the years-long abuse, assault, and extrajudicial killings by police.
Coffins were carried during the parade on Thursday in honor of the unarmed protestors who were shot and killed on October 20, 2020, at the Lekki Tollgate when they were singing the national anthem and waving the Nigerian flag by security personnel.
Online videos show public figures and a sizable crowd walking through Lagos’ streets despite a strong police presence.
Folarin Falana, better known by his stage as “Falz,” previously declared he will participate in the walk to “honor fallen heroes from the #LekkiMassacre #EndSARS.”
Debo Adedayo, an activist and comedian also known as Mr. Macaroni, announced that he would take part in the walk in honor of victims who had been beaten up by police.
“Peaceful walk tomorrow in honour of all #EndSars and police brutality victims. We no go fit ever forget!!!!” he tweeted.
