Wike Receives Kwankwaso from the NNPP Ahead of Project Inauguration
Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike welcomed New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso to Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Sunday night, ahead of the inauguration of the Mgbutanwo Internal Roads in the Emohua Local Government Area on Monday.
Wike had invited politicians from opposition parties to commission projects in the oil-rich South-South state. The Rivers governor had said he invited opposition politicians to commission projects in his state for them to see firsthand and tell their party men.
Adams Oshiomhole, a former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), commissioned the state’s eighth flyover on Ada George road, adjacent to Wike’s private residence in Rumueprikom in the Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, last Wednesday.
On Thursday, Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi also dedicated the 9th flyover at the popular Ikoku junction.
Similarly, President Muhammadu Buhari dedicated the Nigeria Law School’s Port Harcourt Campus on Friday.
For months, Wike and four other Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors known as the G5 have demanded Iyorchia Ayu’s resignation, claiming that northerners should not be the PDP’s national chairman and presidential candidate.
However, Ayu, a Benue native, has insisted on remaining in office until the end of his four-year term, even as the G5 made his resignation a condition for supporting Adamawa-born Atiku Abubakar’s presidential bid in 2023.
While Wike and his allies have not been seen campaigning for Atiku, it is unclear whether they will back APC’s Bola Tinubu or Obi in the race for Aso Rock’s top job, which analysts and keen observers have described as a three-horse race.
