16-year-old Nigerian wonderkid beats 49,900 contestants from 170 countries to emerge among winners of $1bn fund
Tomisin Ogunnubi, a 16-year-old wonderkid from Nigeria, beat off 49,900 candidates from 170 different nations to become one of the winners of the $1 billion Rise Initiative.
In 2016, technology expert Tomisin Ogunnubi, who specializes in coding, attracted a lot of attention when she created the “My Locator” app, a piece of software that aids lost children in returning home.
The “My Locator” software follows users as they move from one area to the next using Google Maps. Users can enter phone numbers that will be notified of their position in an emergency. The software has gotten over 1,000 downloads since it was made.
Tomisin was chosen as one of the 100 winners of the $1 billion Rise initiative fund, and she will now get a lifetime reward that includes cash for career growth, mentorship, and study abroad scholarships.
