Nigerian striker Asisat Oshola becomes the best-ever African women player, wins award for a record 5th time
Asisat Oshoala of Nigeria, a striker, has won the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) best women player of the year title a record-breaking fifth time, making her the finest female player in African history.
Ajara Nchout Njoya (Cameroon and Inter Milan) and Zambia international Grace Chanda (Zambia and BIIK Kazygurt) were beaten out for the prestigious accolade by Asisat Oshoala, who also plays for Barcelona Women.
She surpasses Nigeria’s Perpetua Nkwocha, who has won the honor four times, to become the first-ever African to be voted Africa’s finest ladies player of the year a record five times.
Oshoala led Barcelona to a perfect league victory last year, and despite suffering from injuries, she outscored other players in Liga Femeni to become the league’s leading scorer with 24 goals.
She is the first person from Africa to accomplish this in Spain.
At the most recent CAF award presentation, which was held in Rabat, Morocco, a number of outstanding players from across Africa also took home other honors. Sadio Mane, a striker for Bayern Munich and Senegal, was named the best male player of the year.
