Obi courting the North, vowing to end poverty
Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), is courting the North, which is said to be the nation’s poverty capital, by promising prosperity under an Obi-Datti-led LP administration if elected in 2023.
Dr. Yunusa Tanko, the Campaign’s Chief Spokesperson, spoke for his principal during a live broadcast on Bright FM Abuja yesterday.
Tanko stated that Obi, who served two terms as governor of Anambra State, was determined and committed to permanently changing the Nigerian story.
According to him, the candidate and his team of patriots recognize the enormous agricultural potentials in northern Nigeria, and they are determined to direct energy to aggressive agricultural production and Agro-allied business in order to lift the population out of poverty.
Tanko stated that Obi would not only concentrate on agricultural production, but would also ensure value addition prior to export in order to earn much-needed foreign exchange for national development.
Concerning the LP’s plans to ensure credible polls, he stated that the party has begun recruiting volunteers who will work around the clock to ensure that total votes cast in each polling booth are transmitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) server before they leave.
The volunteers, whom he dubbed “cell soldiers,” could be stationed at every polling booth across the country and would be willing to stay until the results were announced and transmitted to the INEC server.
