22-year-old man abandons undergraduate study in Nigeria after 4 years, wins huge scholarship to start afresh in Japan
Awe Ayodeji Lucky, a promising Nigerian student in his fourth year at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), has left his studies there to pursue a scholarship to study in Japan.
Ayodeji, a student of Agricultural Economics, was given the chance to study Robotics in Japan after receiving the Japanese MEXT Scholarship following his fourth year at the institution. He was supposed to complete his education there for five years.
Since he finished from high school, Ayodeji Lucky has longed to study overseas, but his parents couldn’t afford to send him. As a result, he decided to apply for scholarships.
“It all started in 2016 after graduating from high school. There was no way my family could afford the cost of sending abroad despite the fact it was my mega dream,” Ayodeji said.
Speaking about his experience applying for scholarships, he remarked that receiving one wasn’t simple, that he received many rejections, and that the years 2017 to 2020 were the hardest for him.
“I started applying for scholarships that did not require a language test certificate and SAT. The more I applied, the more rejections I got. Even people I guided were able to make it. It was my most difficult times (2017 to 2021)”
When telling his story, Ayodeji mentioned that he applied for the Japanese MEXT Scholarship five times before being successful on the fifth. He claims that the prize is regarded as the most challenging Asian prize in the entire world.
“Now, Japanese Government is going to invest some huge amount of money in my education. The Scholarship covers everything. I’m just grateful that I didn’t give up.” Ayodeji narrated
