Divine Ikubor, better known as Rema, a Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, has expressed happiness at the completion of a mission he set out to complete three years ago.
He recently shut down a major Indian city as well as the concert venue where he held the first round of his ‘Rema Calm Down India Tour’.
Rema took to Twitter to share a video from a 2020 interview in which he discussed bringing Afrobeats to India and making a name for himself.
“You see Afrobeats, I want to take it to the next level. I want us to get into the India zone. Why can’t we shut down India?” he said in the interview.
He was overjoyed that, after three years, he had finally been able to shut down India, and he thanked both the country and those who had believed in him.
The ‘Calm Down’ crooner tweeted; “3 years later I did it! Thank you India for your overwhelming love & my heart to those who BELIEVED. ✊🏾🇮🇳”

Rema’s first performance was in Delhi, and his next stop will be in Mumbai on Saturday, followed by a show in Hyderabad on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Mavin Records act told PTI in an interview that he enjoys Indian music and would like to work with artists from the Asian country.
“Indian music has very emotional vocals, and I can keep listening to it,” he said. Since I arrived in India, I’ve been listening to a lot of Indian music… AR Rahman is one of my favorite composers.
We have a lot of love and respect for India and all of its creative talent back home. The way forward is to create a new sound that combines Afrobeats and Indian music.
“I had pretty garlands all around my neck, got someone to tie a turban on my head and put a red bindi on my forehead. Some dancers were performing to ‘Calm Down’ in their own Indian folk way. The love here in India is really huge and I am very excited to play for the audience here.”
