14-year-old African kid wins scholarship after solving tough mathematics problems offhand like a calculator, sets to become a Pilot

A South African teenager Sibahle Zwane, 14, was given a fully funded scholarship chance after a video showing him solving some challenging mathematics multiplications off-hand went viral.

When Sibahle Zwane was 10 years old, his great aptitude in mathematics was first noticed. In South Africa, a local police officer caught him on camera responding to challenging math questions.

“I was patrolling the area and he came up to me and asked if I know mathematics, and I said no. He said I should test him and I asked if I can record him, he agreed,” Constable Roger Pillay, the policeman who filmed him narrated.

Speaking with 702, his mother Mbali Zwane said that despite her efforts, she has been unable to determine how he manages to accomplish it.

A few years after his initial video went viral, Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Town in South Africa, saw another of his videos that had been shared on Twitter by AfricaFactsZone.

She later tried to get him a university scholarship.

“Help me get the details of this brilliant Math genius, I’d like to help him study at @UCTOnlineHigh School. His talent cannot be passed by! I want to pay for his studies to make it possible for him to access good education to enable him to use his talent to change the world,” she wrote on Twitter.
