8-months-old pregnant Lady fights in Taekwondo contest, beat opponents to emerge winner of gold medal

Aminat Idrees, an 8-months pregnant Nigerian martial artist, set a remarkable record by defeating all other competitors and winning the Nigerian National Sports Festival while being pregnant.

Before being married in 2020, Aminat Idrees, who was competing for Lagos State, was a superb Taekwondo fighter. She claimed that because of the nation’s lockdown at the time, the competition she should have entered before becoming pregnant was postponed.

Despite being eight months pregnant, she shocked people all over the world by giving a great performance in the Taekwondo poomsae championship. She won gold in the pair poomsae, silver in the team poomsae, and bronze in the individual poomsae for her remarkable performance.

The Taekwondo Poomsae is a non-contact competition that features a series of coordinated techniques that simulate an assault and defense.

Her performance was extraordinary for a pregnant woman and did not go unnoticed as she made headlines across the world. “It’s such a privilege for me. I just decided to give it a try after training a couple of times…It feels really good. Before I got pregnant, I have always enjoyed training, so it didn’t seem different with pregnancy,” Idrees told reporters.

She claimed that she prayed before entering the competition, asked her husband’s permission, spoke with her physicians, and then obtained Nigeria Taekwondo Association consent.
