Brymo’s apology for making anti-Igbo comments: “I was trying to weigh in on extremely critical subjects” [Video]

It Brymo, a.k.a. Olawale Ashimi, a Nigerian singer, has apologized to South-East area residents for his anti-Igbo statements.

The singer of “Ara” sparked debate when he launched a Twitter rant against Igbos due to their political allegiance and differences.

Brymo had made a series of tribally motivated posts but the straw that broke the camel’s back was when he tweeted; “F**k The Ndi Igbo!! To Hell With It!!”.

After that, a Change.org petition was started calling for the immediate revocation of his AFRIMMA appointment.

The musician chose to apologize during an Instagram live session after feeling the pressure and outrage from Nigerians.

Brymo added that the argument began when he suggested that award-winning author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie shouldn’t have accepted a traditional Igbo chieftaincy title while disregarding a national distinction, given how the area is pushing for the Presidency.

The “Oleku” hitmaker claimed that when requested to apologize to the people of the south-east, he replied, “F**k The Ndi Igbo.”

He claimed that the comment was misconstrued since he had only used it to allude to those who were leading the effort to bring him down, not the entire tribe.

HE SAID: “I DIDN’T INSULT THE TRIBE (IGBOS), I WILL NOT DO THAT. I APOLOGIZE TO ANY ONE WHO IS SADDENED BY SUCH TWEET. I WAS TRYING TO WEIGH IN ON VERY IMPORTANT MATTERS.”
