Desmond Elliot vs youth: Lagos Youths Vows to Deal with Desmond Elliot in Upcoming State Elections

The youth of Surulere in Lagos have vowed to turn out en masse to vote actor-turned-politician Desmond Elliot out of his position as a representative for the Surulere Constituency of the Lagos State House of Assembly during the 2019 state elections.

Desmond Elliott was sworn into office on April 11, 2015, and since then, notably in Surulere, he hasn’t achieved anything that hasn’t made the youth upset. To make matters worse, he disregarded the young people at the END Sars protest in 2020 by advocating at the Lagos State House of Assembly for a law to control and regulate speech on social media.

The Labour Party’s Olumide Oworu, an actor running for the Surulere Constituency seat in the Lagos House of Assembly against his older colleague Desmond Elliott, has the support of the youths, who are now prepared to deal with him.

“This is the high time to teach Desmond a lesson of his life sebi na we he called children 2years ago and the children are now adult now that can vote him out, we moveeee Olumide for surulere constituency 1” one Amina wrote

“By the time we are done with Desmond Elliot and retire him from politics, he’ll be begging Kunle Afolayan for a movie role where he’ll be fanning the Igwe” one Victor wrote

“Desmond has been useless to surulere, we are voting him out this time” one Samson wrote

Desmond Elliott has held the position of power for two terms and is thinking about running for a third. However, this time, he will face competition for the Surulere Constituency seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Olumide Oworu, his junior colleague, expressed interest in running for his position by sharing a flier and a lengthy post announcing his intention to take on Desmond Elliott.

In his formal statement announcing his declaration, Olumide, who desires a change, expressed his love of youngsters and commitment to serving Nigerians.

“It is with a sense of honour and duty that I announce my candidacy for membership of The Lagos State House of Assembly – Surulere Constituency 1 on the platform of The Labour Party. The youth of this generation in Nigeria are more politically aware than ever and are now striving to have our voices heard and take part in the government process of this great country.

As someone with a passion for youth development, it is on this note that I tender myself in service to play my part in the actualization of an all-inclusive government, where the young Nigerian intellectuals have a chance to make a change by being a part of the move for the creation of a new Nigeria. Thank you for your support. A new Nigeria is possible.”
