In Lagos, police apprehend a cleaner for stealing a laptop
Kemi Salawu, a cleaner at Yaba College of Technology, was arrested for allegedly stealing her boss’s HP laptop.
On Monday, May 22, the Lagos State Police Command arraigned her before the Yaba Magistrates’ Court on one count of theft.
Her boss, Femi Fadaru, is said to have declared the laptop, worth N633,700, missing after she cleaned his office and left.
Chekwube Okey, the prosecutor representing Haruna Magaji, told the court that the complainant gave the defendant the key to his office and asked her to clean it and return the key, but she allegedly stole the laptop after cleaning it.
Okey stated that the defendant committed the crime on April 26, 2023, at the YABATECH campus.
The charge sheet read in part; “That you, Kemi Salawu, on April 26, 2023, around 8am at YABATECH premises in the Lagos Magisterial District did steal one HP laptop valued at N633, 700, property of one Femi Faduru, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280(1) and punishable under Section 287 (1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.”
The defendant, on the other hand, pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate O.Y. Adefope granted bail to the defendant in the amount of N500,000.
He postponed the case until June 14, 2023.
