You should not complain about hunger because there is farmland available, says Buhari to Nigerians.

President Muhammadu Buhari has urged Nigerians to stop whining about hunger and instead return to the farm.

He said this in an interview with Tambari Hausa TV, adding that despite the floods that have devastated farming communities, Nigeria can still feed itself, according to Peoples Gazette.

Buhari also stated that one of the policies his administration implemented upon taking office was to prevent food importation by closing borders, forcing people to return to farming.

“I took that decision (border closure) to stop rice importation and said we should farm what we eat or starve,” he explained.

I said that since we have farm land and God has blessed us with rain, what reason does a Nigerian have to say he’s hungry? If you are hungry, go to the farm”.

The president added; “I’m aware that floods have ravaged some farmlands this season but we are still selling rice made in Nigeria, and we can feed ourselves. Is that not an achievement? We have workers who left their air-conditioned offices and went into farming, and they had bounty harvests. So, we are grateful.”

Meanwhile, Buhari previously accused Nigerians of being unfair in their assessment of his administration’s performance, claiming that despite performing “extremely well,” people refused to commend him.

This comes as he accuses the country’s elite of being unconcerned about Nigeria and its numerous problems.

Buhari spoke after inaugurating some projects overseen by Governor Hope Uzodinma in Owerri, Imo state.

He said; “In terms of time and resources, this administration has done extremely well. I have to say it because those who are supposed to say it are not saying it. I don’t know why.”
