Young African Lady graduates as a Microbiologist with first-class, wins scholarship to study in both US and UK
Mercy Ojetunde, a smart Nigerian woman, accomplished an extraordinary achievement after being awarded a Commonwealth Scholarship by the United Kingdom for her Master’s degree and then being awarded a second scholarship in the United States for her Doctorate.
Osun State University in South-West, Nigeria, awarded Mercy Ojetunde a first-class (4.75 out of 5.00) bachelor’s degree in microbiology. She submitted her application for the UK Commonwealth Shared Scholarship following her undergraduate studies.
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) annually funds the United Kingdom Commonwealth Shared Scholarship, which enables international students to enroll for free in any UK university’s Master’s program.
She claims that she began looking at MSc/PhD prospects abroad since she was keen to pursue her Master’s and Doctoral (PhD) degrees with financial support from international organizations.
“I started my applications, and fortunately, I got the Commonwealth Shared Scholarships in 2021 to study MSc. Biotechnology at the University of the West of Scotland, UK,” she wrote on LinkedIn.
“It was a great opportunity to understand the teaching/learning style abroad,” she added.
