Students studying for exams receive chocolates from UCT’s vice chancellor.
Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng, the vice chancellor of the University of Cape Town (UCT), South Africa, has won people’s hearts after she made an unexpected nighttime visit to the lecture halls to support students studying for examinations.
In a video that has gone viral online, the VC is seen giving chocolates to students she saw reading at 11 o’clock and encouraging them.
On her official Linkedin profile, Mamokkgethi posted the video of what happened on Tuesday, November 15.
She could be seen moving from desk to desk, pausing at each one to offer a chocolate bar to the occupants.
Sharing the video, Phakeng wrote; “I went back to campus study spaces at around 11pm last night to give my students chocolates and words of encouragement as they prepare for their final exams. As usual, I was encouraged to find them hard at work”
“The university journey is not easy, much support and constant motivation is needed to push through! I am a mother before I am VC, so I will be there to give them the motivation they need to soldier on”
