Wizkid wearing his NYSC uniform in a video prompts the comments, “Thought he dropped out.”
The popular artist Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, better known online as Wizkid, was seen in a viral video wearing a NYSC uniform.
Remember that in 2008, Wizkid received admission to Lagos State University (LASU) to pursue a degree in sociology in the Faculty of Social Sciences. During his time at LASU, his matriculation number was listed as “08-06-41-041.”
Wizkid left LASU after a little more than a semester to concentrate on his professional music career. He was signed to the Empire Mates Entertainment (EME) record company at the time. During this time, Wizkid released his debut hit, “Holla at Your Boy,” to tremendous critical praise and acceptance.
It is true that Wizkid left LASU to concentrate on his music career, but the precise reasons for his departure from the university are unknown. Some stories claim he departed because of financial difficulties, while others claim he wanted to concentrate solely on his music career.
Wizkid enrolled once more, this time at Lead City University in Oyo State’s administrative center of Ibadan. He pursued a degree in international studies, but due to his early departure from the school, he did not finish it.
In celebration of Wizkid’s major contribution to Nigerian music on the international scene, Cyprus International University awarded him an honorary degree in June 2015.
Due to these facts, the video of Wizkid wearing the NYSC uniform sparked controversy. While some speculated that it may have been for a video shoot, others claimed he had finished his university degree.
