82-year-old woman bags Bachelor’s degree from University of Maryland with honours, celebrates achievement

Mae Beale, a remarkable 82-year-old who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Maryland Global Campus, has served as an inspiration to people all around the world (UMGC).

Just one day after her 82nd birthday, Mae Beale was presented with her certificate. Mae Beale, who was in her late 70s when she enrolled in school to earn a Bachelor’s degree, was mentioned in a press release from the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC).

She had already worked as a licensed practical nurse in Washington, DC, for a number of years.

“Over her long career as an LPN in Washington, D.C., Beale worked at health care and government agencies in the area, including Children’s National Hospital, the National Naval Center (now Walter Reed National Military Medical Center), the Washington VA Medical Center Hospital, and later joined the Department of Health and Human Services,” the statement read.

“It was at the Department of Health and Human Services’ Centers for Medicare and Medicaid where Beale’s career pivoted toward business and event planning,” the statement continued.

Mae Beale claimed that because she planned significant events while employed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, her superiors believed she had something special.

According to the press release, Beale began her own event planning company in 1994 at the age of 54 and enrolled at Howard Community College to pursue an associate’s degree in business management.
