US: One of only two black students in a class of 20 graduates with a PhD from Towson University.
Maria Aretha James, a 24-year-old black woman, recently received a PhD from Towson University in the United States. She was one of only two black doctoral students in her class of about 20 people.
She received a PhD in Occupational Therapy as well as the program’s
“Leadership and Advocacy” award.
Her doctoral dissertation was titled
“culturally responsive care for adolescents with complex trauma.”
Prior to pursuing a doctorate, she earned a bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences from Oakwood University in Alabama, USA.
