Young African Mathematician bags Bachelor’s degree at 17 years old, set to earn PhD in the US
Ruth Ama Gyan-Darkwa, a remarkable math prodigy from Ghana, established the record for becoming the nation’s youngest bachelor’s degree holder after graduating at the age of 17.
2004-born Ruth Ama Gyan-Darkwa enrolled in college when she was 13 years old. The young and tenacious math prodigy enrolled in Ghana’s Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics.
Despite the technicalities involved in mathematics, Ruth Ama Gyan-Darkwa received Second-Class honors. Mathematics is one of the most challenging courses in the world.
Ruth Ama Gyan-performance Darkwa’s was hailed as outstanding by Professor Abeiku Akora-Prah, Head of the Mathematics Department of the University’s College of Sciences. He noted that the course was extremely challenging and that Ruth Ama Gyan-Darkwa must have had a strong mind to get through it.
Speaking on Ruth Ama Gyan-record, Darkwa’s the university public relations officer said that Ruth has become the youngest student to ever graduate from the university and that it is a significant boost for the institution’s policy to raise the male-female ratio as well as the STEM project.
